There are three fundamentally different ways to order plush toys from China: direct from a factory, from a wholesale market of ready-made models, or through an agent. The choice determines everything: unit price, minimum order, lead time, whether you get a unique product, and what documents you will have for customs. A mistake at this stage costs more than at any other.

Channel 1. Direct from a factory (custom production)
A contract with the manufacturer, no middlemen: you provide the design (sketch, reference or idea), the factory makes a prototype, you approve it, and the batch goes into production.
- Best for: your own brand, a mascot, corporate gifts — any project where uniqueness matters.
- Volume: typical MOQ from 500 pieces per design.
- Price: guide range $4–10.5 per piece depending on volume and construction complexity.
- Lead time: 25–50 days from approved artwork to shipment.
- Sample: paid prototype ¥500–2,000, credited toward a first order of 500+ pieces.
- Documents: the factory provides samples and technical documentation for TR CU 008/2011 certification (the certificate itself is obtained by the importer through an EAEU body).
Pros: unique product, quality control, documentation. Cons: volume threshold and a slower start than buying ready-made.
Channel 2. Wholesale markets of ready-made models (Yiwu, Guangzhou)
Buying finished toys “off the shelf”: the biggest markets are Yiwu and Guangzhou wholesale centers.
- Best for: quick niche testing, souvenirs, orders with no brand requirements.
- Volume: from one carton — minimal entry threshold.
- Price: usually lower per piece than factory custom, but compare it against zero uniqueness.
- Lead time: shipped in days to weeks — the goods already exist.
- Risks: the same model is sold to hundreds of buyers; import documents are often missing; quality drifts between batches.
Channel 3. Agent / trading company
An agent takes on factory search, negotiation, QC and logistics. That is a service, and it is priced in: a markup sits inside every unit.
- Pros: time savings, communication in a familiar language, turnkey support.
- Cons: production is opaque (you never know the real factory or real cost), documents can “get lost”, and nobody is accountable in a quality dispute.
- When justified: a first small order in an unfamiliar category, when avoiding mistakes matters more than saving money.

Importing to Russia and Central Asia: what matters in every channel
- Certification. Toys require TR CU 008/2011 conformity assessment: the importer obtains the certificate through an accredited EAEU body, using samples and technical documentation. Without it the goods will not clear customs.
- Labeling. Russian plus the national language of destination, age grading, importer details — build this into production in advance.
- Logistics. For Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Russia the main overland route is the Khorgos crossing: road, rail, air or sea depending on urgency and budget. See the production and logistics page.
Checklist: what to verify before paying a supplier
- A physical sample (or detailed video inspection) before the main payment.
- Test reports (EN71 / CE / ASTM F963) with verifiable numbers.
- Real shipment history: photos, clients, references.
- A contract fixing lead times, penalties and acceptance procedure.
- Staged payment: deposit after sample approval, balance after pre-shipment inspection.

For small ready-made batches the market is cheaper. But if you need a unique product, a factory run of 500+ pieces gives a better unit price for your own design rather than a model everyone sells.
How long does a factory order take?

Who obtains the EAC certificate?
